Devotion
Sometimes we may see ourselves as the faithful servant that has done a pretty good job of serving our Lord. Thankfully, we may also find a call in the hymns of our worship to continue our focus on serving God. At the risk of starting the Advent and Christmas seasons a bit early, I found a calling in the hymn “O Come All Ye Faithful.” When our faith journey is going well, we may be tempted to tell others that we have arrived. However, this hymn calls us back to reality and reminds us that our calling is a lifelong calling. We have work to do as God’s servants. We have work to do as worshipers of God. Come and behold what God is up to in the lives of God’s children, in the life of God’s church, in the lives of our own communities of faith. God is up to something. We are a part of it. Come, faithful ones, because our worship is carried out in action.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, as we come close to embarking on this journey toward Christmas, open our eyes to
see where you are working in our world and encourage us to take part. Amen.
