This short hymn is meant to be repeated as long as you wish. It sets a mood, quiets the mind, and helps us listen as we invite God to listen to the needs of the community of faith. We repeatedly invite the presence of the Spirit, who calls, gathers, and enlightens the people of God. The Spirit is an advocate, a counselor, promised by Jesus to guide our lives. It is the Spirit who brings truth and justice to this world.
"Lord, listen to your children praying." The prayer of the church includes the whole church: every race, color, and creed. We pray for the ill, the downtrodden, the lonely; for governments, countries, and leaders to work for peace. We pray for good weather, a bountiful harvest, safe travels, air quality, clean streams. We pray for food and health, comfort and joy. Lord, listen to your people praying.
Prayer
Lord, listen to your people praying for forgiveness and mercy, love and grace. Walk with us, talk with us, as you call us your own. Be present at our waking and sleeping, at our walking and at our eating, at our working and at our playing. In Christ we pray. Amen.
