All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name! (ELW 634)
1 All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
bring forth the royal diadem
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem
and crown him Lord of all.
2 O seed of Israel’s chosen race
now ransomed from the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace
and crown him Lord of all.
Hail him who saves you by his grace
and crown him Lord of all.
3 Hail him, you heirs of David’s line,
whom David Lord did call —
the God incarnate, man divine —
and crown him Lord of all.
The God incarnate, man divine —
and crown him Lord of all.
4 Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget
the wormwood and the gall,
go spread your trophies at his feet
and crown him Lord of all.
Go spread your trophies at his feet
and crown him Lord of all.
5 Let ev’ry kindred, ev’ry tribe
on this terrestrial ball
to him all majesty ascribe
and crown him Lord of all.
To him all majesty ascribe
and crown him Lord of all.
6 Oh, that with yonder sacred throng
we at his feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
We’ll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
Devotion
When our daughter was a little girl her daycare provider was a lovely Christian woman, Diane. She took living out her faith with her young charges very seriously. To that end, if one of the kids said “God” in casual conversation she would say, “Emily wants to pray, fold your hands and bow your heads everyone. Emily is going to lead us in prayer.” One day when Ashley’s mother was picking her up, she said, “Oh my God.” One of the kids said, “Ashley’s mom wants to pray, everyone, close your eyes and fold your hands!” Needless to say, Ashley’s mom was quite embarrassed and was careful in her use of the powerful name of Jesus in the future at Diane’s house! This hymn extolls the power of Jesus’ Name. It calls on every kindred and every tribe on this terrestrial ball to ascribe to God all majesty, and to crown him Lord of all!
Prayer
Holy and ever living God, we praise your name and give you glory and honor with every fiber of our beings. Instill in us a sense of awe and wonder at all your mighty works. May we revere your blessed name in all the moments of our days. Alleluia! Amen!
