LBW #552, “In Thee Is Gladness”
Devotion
Verse 2
If he is ours,...We fear no powers, Not of earth or sin or death.
...Wherefore the story Tell of his glory With heart and voices;
All heav’n rejoices In him forever: Alleluia!
We shout for gladness, Triumph o’er sadness,
Love him and praise him And still shall raise him Glad hymns forever: Alleluia!
“Alleluia” is the exclamation point that best sums up our future in Christ. “Alleluia” is the punctuation for this hymn’s bold and powerful words. Christ bridges the chasm of sin, death and evil. There is no equivocation here, only triumph with glad hymns forever.
Prayer
O Christ, you bridge the impossible chasm of sin, death and evil that would irrevocably blacken our future. We join with the communion of saints in shouting “Alleluia!” We fear no powers, our glad hymns are forever. Amen.
