LBW, #363, "Christ is Alive! Let Christians Sing"
Devotion
Who taught you about Jesus Christ? What role did your mother, grandmother or aunt play in passing on the faith? Among the women identified at the tomb on Easter morning, Mary, the mother of James, was present. She went back with the others to share the news: Christ is Alive! Women, and in particular, mothers, played a central role in proclaiming the good news.
Mothers and fathers are still today the principle evangelists for their children. Their witness teaches what it means to sing, “Christ is Alive!”
Today is Mother’s Day. We thank God for the prayers, witness, story telling and example of mothers. We thank God for the ways God uses people closest to us to communicate the closeness of God.
Prayer
O God, we remember the witness of women who were first given the news: Christ is alive! We thank you for the love and witness of the women in our lives, especially our mothers.
