WOV #765, “Jesu, Jesu, fill Us with Your Love”
Devotion
With a sack of rice, Ms. Huy, an old woman softened by Jesus' love, shows us how to serve the neighbor.
The scent of incense filled the room. Fresh dates and tea greeted me as I called on one of my flock. A translator joined me for the visit. Mr. Ny Mao fled Cambodia years ago. He described his escape in vivid terms, but his eyes lit up when he told me about when he first knew Jesus. He spoke about Ms. Huy and her sack of rice. At first she had been a stranger, just a poor woman who kept bringing his family a sack of rice. When Mr. Mao finally asked her why she kept bringing rice, she told him about Jesus and how following Jesus meant serving her neighbors. Soon Mr. Mao was baptized, through the witness of an old woman and a sack of rice.
Prayer
Kneeling Jesus, give us your silent love shown in a simple act of mercy, some grains of rice. Help us to discover and receive your grace and presence in all people. Fill us with your love today and always. Amen.
