WOV #765, "Jesu, Jesu Fill us with Your Love"
Devotion
Mr. Reth lives in a care center. The roommate of a member of Christ Lutheran, he has a gentle smile, is wheelchair-bound and is younger than many of the residents. I was greatly surprised when this man greeted me at church one Sunday morning, waiting at the big locked fire door for the pastor to open up!
Our only common language is God’s spirit of joy and grace. At Mr. Reth's side was Mr. Ny Mao, the man who remembered the witness of a sack of rice given his to family in Christian love. He offers Mr. Reth car rides and a community of faith. Within weeks, the water of baptism is poured over Mr. Reth’s head, and through a translator he says the paralysis in his leg and arm are healing. Mr. Reth and Mr. Ny Mao show us how to serve the neighbor we have from Jesus. Thanks be to God!
Prayer
Kneeling wonder, gracious Savior, give us pause, give us the ability to wait, to see, to experience your presence in all of creation. In your loving example, a touch, a glance, a sack of rice, a ride to church, may we discover that “this is the way we will live with you.” Amen.
