Lo, How a Rose is Growing (LBW 58)
Devotion
My mother has a rose garden next to her house in Minnesota. For as long as I can remember, she has cut most of the bushes away in the late fall and covered what remains with straw to protect them through the winter. The last thing I would expect to see growing on a winter night in her rose garden is “a bloom of finest grace.” In the winters of our lives, we don’t expect such miracles to occur, either. This hymn draws our attention once again to God’s gift of the Christ child, who brings us out of the dark nights of our lives to behold the child of Mary and the king of glory.
Prayer
Loving God, we thank you and praise you for your gift of the “one perfect flow’r,” Jesus Christ. Amen.
