“Let Us Break Bread Together” (ELW 471)
1 Let us break bread together on our knees;
let us break bread together on our knees.

When I fall on my knees,
with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

let us drink wine together on our knees.

3 Let us praise God together on our knees;
let us praise God together on our knees.

Devotion
This week’s gospel reading promises that Jesus, God’s bread that comes down from heaven, unites us in one body with him. Yet, one of our greatest challenges in the Church, as well as in society, is crossing lines of culture and ethnicity, politics and skin color to worship God together. We see in many instances how people are divided today, and often wonder how we can ever come together across those divisions. But God has created all people as one human race, with all our distinct differences as an added gift of diversity. Just as many grains are kneaded together to become one bread, so God is working to mold us together into one human family. We are all beloved children of God, so we pray that one day we can all stand together, eat together, and learn to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Prayer
Creator God, you have made us all your children, even when we are divided. We ask for mercy, for faith to follow you, and strength to love our neighbors, as you have loved us. Amen.
