Verse 4Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.
Verse 5Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.
Verse 6Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.
Verse 7Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness' sake, O Lord!
Verse 8Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
Verse 9He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
Verse 10All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.
Devotion
Last year, I attended my 50th college anniversary. It was good to see some of my former classmates and recall those days together. It is funny what we remember about the past—some things good and cherished, but some things that we would still just as soon forget.
The psalmist says God remembers us—but not our failures or wayward ways. Rather, we want and trust God to remember us with compassion and forgiveness. I am thankful that along with the psalmist I can trust in God’s steadfast love.
But do we remember others who have affected us in a negative way with the way that God touches our lives? God sets a road in front of us—full of mercy and love. Our path remains smooth as we share that with others.
Prayer
God, thank you for your loving and forgiving remembrance of me. Help me along the path of life. Amen.
