Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 890)
1 Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
he is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
he has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword:
his truth is marching on.
Refrain:
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
2 He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
he is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgment seat.
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on. [Refrain]
3 In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
with a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me.
As he died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
while God is marching on. [Refrain]

Devotion
Since June 2021, the Veteran Servant Corps Project has been providing worship services at Veterans homes in Colorado. This past August, members from three Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations worked together to provide the Veterans home in Florence, Colorado, with a concert and cookout. It was the first time since the pandemic for some of these residents to enjoy time together. I remember watching a resident dance with one of the resident’s caretakers. The joy on his face as he danced was marvelous to see!
This joyful moment was the product of years of planning and prayer. The first time I visited this home, I offered a simple worship service and three people attended. Others from our board have visited since then, with similar results. We talked and prayed about this situation, asking the Lord to lead and guide us. Our prayers were answered abundantly at this August event—but in God’s time, not ours.
Prayer
“O be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on.” Amen.
