Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 708)
Refrain
Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you.
1 Kneels at the feet of his friends, silently washes their feet, master who acts as a slave to them.
Refrain
2 Neighbors are wealthy and poor, varied in color and race, neighbors are nearby and far away.
Refrain
3 These are the ones we will serve, these are the ones we will love; all these are neighbors to us and you.
Refrain
4 Kneel at the feet of our friends, silently washing their feet: this is the way we will live with you.

Devotion
During a strenuous hike at Machu Picchu, Peru, I consumed all my water. Another member of our tour group shared a bottle of water. While visiting a local brewery in Trinidad, Cuba, it became dark. With no street signs I wasn’t sure where the B&B I was staying at was located. Thanks to some young men who understood a little English I found the place. We like to remember Jesus for miraculous acts like raising Lazarus. Verse 1 of our hymn reminds us that Jesus “kneels at the feet of his friends, silently washes their feet.” Jesus is found in mundane actions. It is still true today that we look for Jesus’ action in miraculous healings. But what if we see Jesus’ action in the gift of a bottle of water or giving directions to a lost traveler. This week try to recognize Jesus’ presence in the ordinary things that help you get through life.
Prayer
Open our eyes, Jesus, and help us see that you are like a true friend constantly helping us in so many little ways. Thanks, Jesus, for all the help. Amen.
