Devotion
For more years than I care to think about, I fretted over my lack of exercise and physical fitness. Last March I finally joined a health club, worked with a personal trainer, and disciplined myself to work out three times a week. My lack of motivation and commitment in the past - for most of my adult life - is turning around. I experience great freedom in doing what I have known all along I should be doing to stay healthy.
"Turn my heart to your decrees," the psalmist implores. "Lead me in the path of your commandments." It's hard work to discipline ourselves and do what health requires or what God requires. We can't do it alone, but need companions to encourage us and hold us accountable. In the end, the rewards are great and lead to life.
