“I'm So Glad Jesus Lifted Me” ELW 860 & WOV 673
1 I'm so glad Jesus lifted me.
I'm so glad Jesus lifted me.
I'm so glad Jesus lifted me.
singing glory, hallelujah!
Jesus lifted me.
2 Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me.
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me.
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me.
singing glory, hallelujah!
Jesus lifted me.
3 When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me.
When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me.
When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me.
singing glory, hallelujah!
Jesus lifted me.
Devotion
This peppy tune relates to each of our readings this week as it reinforces the idea that Jesus is the one who will raise us up when we fall or are pushed down. In Job, we read about God’s majesty and power. In 2 Corinthians we learn about costly grace and are invited to ponder what Jesus lay down so that we could be lifted. In the Gospel and Psalm 107 we remember that there are no storms more powerful than our Lord. Taken all together, we receive an intense reminder that our joy, our strength, and our comfort all come from the same Source. Even in (or because of) our fragility, it’s worth celebrating!
Prayer
Jesus, lift me up today so that I may lay myself down for another person. Amen.
