LBW #518, "Beautiful Savior"
Devotion
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the Nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, Praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be thine! (v.4)
We live in a polarized time and God has been dragged into it. We have slipped back into a bygone era of tribal gods and local deities. Whoever “we” are, God is our God. Whoever “they” are, god is their god.
No! The Lord of the Nations is enthroned above our distinctions and divisions (Isaiah 40:22). If Jesus is Lord, then whoever “we” are, he is our Lord. If Jesus is Lord, then whoever “they” are, he is their Lord. Glory, honor, praise and adoration are his when all people are seen and embraced as fellow subjects of the one Lord “in whom we live, move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28).
One day, what is will be. “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20)
Prayer
Almighty and everlasting God, grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united under the glorious and gentle rule of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (From prayer #108, LBW p.30)
