Send Me, Jesus, ELW 549 & WOV 773 (NRSV)
Devotion
About ten years ago I traveled to Africa. One of the highlights of this trip was worshiping with an African church. We sang and danced for hours using these words, "Send Me, Jesus." We sang it so many times you couldn’t help but get these words stuck into your heart and soul. It gave me a deep sense of commitment to the call of the Gospel. The song is simple, yet so profound. Whenever I sing this song, and sing it from the heart, it means that I am willing to go, and be sent to wherever or whatever God has in store for me.
To be willing to be sent takes a humble servant’s heart. It means trust in God and His provision. This is a big risk, but has great rewards. May you be willing to be sent: to the soup kitchen, to the school, to the playground, to the hospital, to the workplace, to the friend, to the community that is in need. And as you go, know that Christ promises to walk with you.
Prayer
Lord, send us to the places that need your love and mercy. Use our willing hearts to be a witness of your love and grace. Amen.
