Be Thou My Vision, ELW 793 & WOV 776
1 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art: thou my best thought both by day and by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
2 Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord.
Thou my soul's shelter, and thou my high tow'r, raise thou me heav'nward,
O Pow'r of my pow'r.
3 Riches I heed not, not vain, empty praise, thou mine inheritance, now and always: thou and thou only, the first in my heart, great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.
4 Light of my soul, after victory won, may I reach heaven's joys, O heaven's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision,
O Ruler of all.
Devotion
Distractions are everywhere. No matter what it is we are trying to accomplish, there is always something else that wants our attention and often times we fall victim. Our walk with Christ is no different. We know the commands. We know the hopes and expectations of Jesus in our life of discipleship. Yet the distractions of our world get in the way all too often. So we come back to the feast. We come back to the source of life, Jesus our Lord, and we beg that God would deliver us again and again and that He could be our vision and source for all that we do. The scary thing I think for many of us is that, if we truly pray that God would be our vision, our lives would have to change drastically. But, finally, that is the calling of our Lord and Risen Savior Jesus Christ! Where is your vision? Where is God in your vision? Tough questions…think about it.
Prayer
Lord God, be my vision and my guide and open me up to what it is I need to see and where it is you are calling me to go. Drive me, dear Lord, to be your servant in this world and empower me to be your hands and feet. Amen.
