Create a Realistic Budget

Building a realistic student budget is a wise stewardship practice. Some people see budgeting from a point of scarcity and restriction, but a budget can be a tool that frees you to spend up to the limit you've set for yourself.

A budget or spending plan is the most essential tool in money management. No matter if you make thousands of dollars a year or hundreds of dollars, it is important to know how much you have, how much you spend, and where it goes.

Being aware of your income and expenses can be done with the help of the Student Budget Planner. (This is an Excel file.)

Why Financial Wellness?

How do you lead "money talk"?

  • In your family?
  • In your vocation?
  • In the Christian community you serve?

If you grew up in a family where you openly talked about money, saving, and even ways to be generous about giving, then you may feel comfortable talking about and even ready to lead “money talk” in the church.

For most people, “money talk” was taboo in the family and especially in the church. That being the case, it might be very difficult.

Our goal at Luther Seminary is to equip you with tools to lead "money talk" with confidence.
